Vegetable Description

ARTICHOKE GREEN GLOBE

This artichoke is great for cool, short season climates. Prepare your harvest steamed and it is also very tasty boiled with a splash of olive oil and garlic. Space 2' - 3' apart in the sunniest location in your garden that has rich, well drained soil. A California classic !

BEAN BLUE LAKE POLE

This is a tasty and tender bean. Very dependable and easy to grow. Plant 2'-3' apart in a sunny location. Support with string or trellis.

BEAN BUSH BLUE LAKE

Bush variety. Bean is long and smooth with a sweet and delicate flavor. Great producer over a long season in sunny locations.

BEAN GOLDEN WAX

Totally string less and no staking. This is the low maintenance bean with a high yield. Beans are a golden yellow even when cooked! Quite tender and juicy, perfect fresh or canned.

BEAN HENDERSON BUSH LIMA

This is a buttery baby lima. Smooth and delicate these beans are very yummy. Plants need to be staked but are very easy to grow. Plant when temperatures are warm and not too hot. Harvest beans when they are nice and plump.

BEAN KENTUCKY WONDER POLE

67 days. One of the oldest and most widely used varieties. Bright green 8 inch pods are vey flavorful. Resistant to rust. Climbs freely, produces quickly and bears until frost.

BEAN ROMA II

No stings and no staking and very easy to grow! You will get tons of tender and tasty beans along these vines. Start early and harvest early.

BROCCOLI DICICCIO

This Italian heirloom produces very good quality 3-4" heads with lots of side shoots. A very good cool season variety.

BRUSSEL SPROUT CATSKILL

Give these tasty nuggets a little space in your garden and find out how delicious they are! This selection is a semi-dwarf variety that grows 20"-24" tall. It is very flavorful and will produce a generous crop. Does best in rich well drained soil. Cool season crop.

BEET BULLS BLOOD

Heirloom. 58 Days. Deep burgundy leaves for salad mix. Roots show attractive candy stripe zoning when sliced.

BEET DETROIT DARK RED

60 days. This beet has unbeatable canning and pickling quality. Robust sweet flavor with intense bright crimson color with no white streaks or rings. Tops are rich in vitamins A and C.

CABBAGE COPENHAGEN MARKET

Heirloom. 100 days. One of the largest early varieties. Solid round heads 6-8" across weigh 3-4 lbs. Good keeper.

CABBAGE MAMMOTH RED ROCK

Heirloom. 98 days. Introduced in 1889. Solid round heads are 8" in diameter and weigh 7 pounds. Red throughout, small to medium core. Excellent for cooking, salads, and pickling.

CABBAGE SAVOY PERFECTION

90 days. Savoyed leaves are sweet and mild with crinkled texture. When grown as a late crop, flavor improves after light frost. Great raw in coleslaw, or can be steamed, stir fried, or made into sauerkraut.

CAULIFLOWER SELF BLANCH

71 days. A cool season vegetable. 7 inch heads with excellent leaf protection. Does not need tying especially in fall crops.

CELERY TALL UTAH

A temperate climate celery. Stalks will get 11-12" long. They are dark green and very crisp. Have you ever tried home grown celery? You should give it a try!

COLLARDS GEORGIA

If you can't swallow a vitamin try eating collards instead. Collards are loaded with vitamin A, B1, B2, and C. The leaves of this collard are dark green and it is best to pick when the leaves are young. This is a non-heading variety so the more you pick the more it will grow. Can take some frost and will tolerate heat.

CORN HONEY AND PEARL

AAS Winner. 76 days. Early maturing bicolor super sweet hybrid. Nine inch ears have tight wrapping which reduces corn ear worm infestations. Super sweet corn is bred to contain twice the sugar of regular sweet corn and they retain their sweetness up to 2 weeks longer. They must be isolated from other corn varieties by 200 feet or at least 2 weeks planting time.

CORN JUBILEE

81 days. Glossy yellow kernels with high sugar content and smooth texture. 8 1/2 inch long ears with 16-20 rows.

CORN SILVER PRINCESS

Extra early variety, be the first with corn ready this summer. This is a super sugary sweet white corn with bright luminescent kernels. Yummy and early…you can't beat that!! 2 1/2 weeks earlier than the old standard Silver Queen. Great disease tolerance for better yields.

CUCUMBER ARMENIAN

These light green delicacies have a delicious clean, fresh taste and are burp less. The unusual fruits will be slightly ribbed and spineless when mature. Pick them for best flavor when they are 12 - 15 inches long, but they can reach up to 24 inches in length. Growing the plants up a trellis will reward you with straighter fruit for easier slicing. Plant in your garden area that has moist well drained soil and receives full sun.

CUCUMBER HOMEMADE PICKLES

This special cucumber has been bred for making the best pickles you've ever tasted ! Harvest when they are 1-1/2 inches long for tiny sweets or 5 to 6 inches long for robust dills and spears. CUCUMBER JAPANESE SUYO

A wonderful long and curvy dark green fruit with non bitter burp less skin. Grow in warm sunny location.

CUCUMBER LEMON

This scrumptious old fashioned yellow cucumber has the nicest sweet, mild flavor. It's attractive bright lemon-yellow round fruit should be picked when they are 2 to 3 inches in diameter. This variety is a favorite of cool season gardeners. It grows into a nice 3 to 4 foot tall semi- bush form that does best with moist well drained soil. EGGPLANT BLACK BEAUTY

Still the classic home gardener's favorite eggplant. Each plant will give you as many as five enormous fruits. The eggplant skin is a rich glossy blackish purple and the interior is very tender and has great flavor. Remember to plant several for all of your favorite Mediterranean recipes. Japanese Millionaire is the most popular selection that you will find in local Asian markets. This plant will give you slender 8 "-12" long deep purple fruit that are very tender and have a mild flavor and are never bitter. Try them in your cooking or pickling.

Very pretty white cylindrical fruit with a lavender blush, and a mild flavor. Very productive plant. Heat loving vegetable.

LETTUCE RED DEER TONGUE

LETTUCE ROUGE DE HIVER HEIRLOOM

This French heirloom variety name means "Winter Red". A Romaine type lettuce which is popular used when it's leaves are baby sized and will continue to produce for a long season. It is sweet and very attractive. The leaf color varies from green to bronze-red. An elegant addition to your salad bed.

LETTUCE SALAD BOWL RED

Red Salad Bowl is highly regarded for use when it's leaves are baby sized. Radiant burgundy-red, deeply lobed, delicate oak like leaves form a full rosette. It is an early producer and holds its mild flavor for an extended period. This variety grows well in spring, summer and fall.

MELON BANANA

80-100 days. Heirloom. Introduced in 1888. An unusual smooth creamy yellow skinned melon that is 18 inches long. Flesh is soft and juicy salmon orange color with a strongly sweet flavor like an over ripe banana.

MELON CRENSHAW

This melon has yellow gold skin with pale salmon colored flesh. Extra sweet and juicy with a slight spicy smell. Does best in hot well drained location.

MELON EARLY SILVER LINE

Unique, elongated oriental melon. White, crisp flesh sweet and fragrant. A small delicious gourmet melon rarely found in markets. Yellow skin lined with silvery furrows, so thin it can be peeled like an apple.
Harvest 76 days after sowing.

MELON GREEN NUTMEG

83 days. Heirloom. The fruit is large and round, netted with flattened ends, deeply ribbed with a thin ring. Flesh is light green with a spicy flavor that reminds you of nutmeg.

MELON HALES BEST JUMBO

Heirloom variety. Skin is tan with netting, and flesh is bright orange. Rich aromatic flavor. Plants do best in hot and well drained locations.

MELON HEARTS OF GOLD

An almost round 3 -4 pound fruit with an aromatic, sweet scent. Thick deep orange flesh with a small seed cavity. Ripens early.

MELON HONEYDEW GREEN FLESH

Skin is lime green with yellow accents when ripe. Flesh is light green, watery and very sweet. Does best in hot dry locations.

MELON HONEYDEW ORANGE FLESH

Flesh looks like cantaloupe but has a honeydew skin. Flesh is sweet with honeydew flavor. Prefers hot well-rained location.

MELON MINNESOTA MIDGET

Cute little miniature 4" melons resemble cantaloupe but the mini version. Great tangy sweet traditional cantaloupe taste. Vines are smaller too…and will only grow 3-4 feet. The perfect melon for small garden areas.

MELON TIGGER

This is a beautiful melon. It is fire red with yellow stripes. Very bright and distinctive, but also very tasty. The flesh is white and very sweet. Great melon for hot areas.

MIZUNA

These elegant dark green leaves have neat saw-toothed edges and a mild yet tangy flavor. Very good in a salad. Can be grown in veggie beds or herb gardens.

MUSTARD RED GIANT

PEA GREEN ARROW

Very high yielding plants. A sweet garden pea that is tender and about 4" long. Peas grow in pairs at the top of the plant for very easy picking. Plants are resistant to disease. Great cool season veggie.

PEA SNOW OREGON SUGAR POD

If you have a small area for a garden this is the perfect snow pea for you! The vines are small only reaching 24-30" and don't need any staking. They have a delicious sweet taste, and good crisp texture. They are stringless too! Good cool season veggie.

PEA SUGAR SNAP

AAS Winner. 70 days. An outstanding edible pod pea. Superb thick pods are crisp, tender and sugary sweet.

PEPPER ALMA PAPRIKA

This is a prolific pepper. The plants will be loaded with a bunch of small round peppers ranging in color from creamy white to orangey red. They are thick walled peppers but have a nice combination of a tangy and sweet flavor. Can be used fresh or as a powder.

PEPPER ANAHEIM

Also known as the New Mexican Chile, this moderately pungent fruit is deep green but turns red at full maturity. These are very smooth peppers which are 7 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide and are borne on tall productive plants. Excellent used fresh, dried or frozen.

PEPPER ANCHO

Mild; 4 to 6 inches long by 2.5 to 3 inches wide; Ancho/Poblano Type; matures from green to red; called "poblano" when fresh, "ancho" when dried; from Mexico; Uses: Large Stuffing, Mexican Cuisine, Mole, Powder, Roasting, Tall Variety; C.annuum.

PEPPER BETTER BELLE

An even blockier, thicker walled and earlier selection than the original. This vigorous variety will give you large, four lobed sweet peppers which mature from green to a bright red over a long growing season.

PEPPER BLACK HUNGARIAN

Highly ornamental and useful in the kitchen. Green foliage is highlighted by purple veins and beautiful purple flowers. Sturdy plants grow to 30 - 36 inches in height. Produces 3 - 4 inch fruits similar in shape to Jalapenos, but black ripening to red. Mildly hot with good flavor.

PEPPER CARIBBEAN RED HOT

Twice as hot as a regular Habanero. You can also use this pepper green. Be adventurous.

PEPPER CAYENNE

Long thin Pencil shaped fruits, often curled and twisted. Red Hot Flavor, dries well. Mature fruit in 75 days.

PEPPER CHILE D'ARBO

A Cayenne type pepper with pointed pods that are 2 to 3 inches long and 3/8 inches wide. They mature to a dark red and are thin fleshed. The Mexican common name is pico de pajaro (bird's beak) and cola de rata (rat's tail). They are usually ground into a dry powder for red chile sauces or added whole to soups and
stews.

PEPPER CUBANELLE

Considered an Anaheim Pepper substitute. Great for stuffing, roasting, salads, etc. Mild to moderately warm flavor.

PEPPER FLORAL GEM

Very hot, a long time favorite for home gardeners. When pickled young they are known as "Torrido Peppers"

PEPPER FRESNO CHILE

The California pepper for salsa. A medium sized pepper that is 2 - 3 inches in length and about 1 inch wide. These peppers start green, turn orange and then mature to red. A prolific plant that produces over a long summer season.

PEPPER GOLDEN WONDER

The best stuffing and most popular yellow bell pepper ever. Smooth and glossy fruit are large sized, 4 inches by 3 1/2 inches with that classic blocky shape They ripen to a beautiful golden yellow. A wonderful addition to your sweet pepper collection.

PEPPER HABANERO

This is one of the most intensely hot chile peppers. Unripe fruits are green and they color as they mature. Typically a ripe habanero is 1-2 1/2 inches long.

PEPPER HUNGARIAN YELLOW HOT WAX

Medium hot peppers, especially good for pickling. Canary yellow then bright red at full maturity they reach 6 to 8 inches long and 2 inches wide. Plants are 20 to 24 inches tall.

PEPPER JALAPENO

Best known chile pepper of them all ! Indispensable to Mexican cooking, eaten fresh, roasted and dried. Dark green in color with moderate heat these peppers will be about 3 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide when mature. Tall plants in the garden with heavy yields that are easy to pick.

PEPPER JIMMY NARDELLO'S

This is the best sweet variety for drying. One of the most productive, disease resistant and most widely adapted sweet peppers around. Fruits are multidimensionally sweet and intensely flavored. Banana shaped fruits are 5-8 inches long, slightly curved and thin walled. Try this fried, it's great !

PEPPER LARGE CHERRY HOT

This large, hot cherry pepper is round and matures from green to bright red. It is popular stuffed with cheese and used as a popper. It is also used for preserving and pickling. Make your own fun party food !

PEPPER MARCONI RED

The most popular pepper in Mexican cooking. Great smoky mild taste. When fresh it is called Poblano, and dried it is called Ancho pepper.

PEPPER PURPLE BEAUTY

A modern exotic that is found on shelves in gourmet sections of vegetable specialty markets. It is a sweet bell pepper with a beautiful deep purple color that can be easily grown alongside of your red and green bells to give you a beautiful rainbow of peppers. PEPPER RED BELL

PEPPER THAI HOT CULINARY

PUMPKIN BIG MAX

Large rambling plant produces bright yellow orange pumpkins. Average weight is 50-70 lbs., but can grow larger.

PUMPKIN CASPER

White skinned ornamental pumpkin with bright orange flesh. Very sweet flavor, and is good for cooking. Average size of pumpkin is 10-12 lbs.

PUMPKIN CINDERELLA

This is a great novelty pumpkin. Usually grown for decoration, but can make a tasty pie. Deeply ribbed orange-ish red pumpkin that looks like it has been flattened slightly. A nice unique shape, and some think it resembles the pumpkin coach from Cinderella. Your kids will love it!

PUMPKIN CONNETICUT FIELD

This a large 25-30 pound pumpkin. The standard for the traditional Jack-O-Lantern. Orange smooth skin with shallow ribs. Great for carving, and baking into a pie. Pumpkins love sun, and are easy to grow.

RADICCHIO CHIOGGA RED PRECO

SQUASH EIGHT BALL ZUCCHINI

No one will believe you when you tell them this cute little squash is a zucchini. The super dark green round shape makes them look like a little ball.
